342nd Fighter Squadron "Scourgers"
5th Air Force, 348th Fighter Group, 342nd Fighter Squadron
This wartime yearbook was published in late 1944 for members of the Squadron. The 342nd FS was best known for its commander, Col. Neel Kearby, who was credited with 22 victories until he was himself lost in combat piloting P-47D "Firey Ginger" on March 1, 1944.
Also memorialized in the yearbook are MIA and KIA pilots: Col. Neel Kearby, Lt. Pratt, F/O Desilets, Lt. Frankfort and Lt. Luton.
Each page is a mix of photos and drawings. The 244 page book includes photos of every member of the Squadron from pilots to cook and barber.
The book has photos of nearly every P-47D Thunderbolt in the squadron. Also pictured are 22nd Bombardment Group B-26 Marauders and B-24 Liberators that shared the same airfields.
Although the location photos are not identified, they include Port Moresby, Girua Airfield (Kenney Field), Nadzab Airfield, Hollandia and Noemfoor Airfield.
