B-17E
41-9234
Much controversy and speculation surrounded this aircraft because
of the fact that it had RAF roundels on its wings. Research reveals that
these markings were overpainted by later combat markings and are evidence
of a bomber that was destined for Britain but diverted to the Pacific
when American resources were stretched to the limit in the early months
of the war. The history behind this 43rd Bombardment Group aircraft is
exactly documented.
