I
remember laying that metal stuff - Marston Matting on the Henderson.
Later, the strip got crowded with planes an it was really crowded,
creating a lot of problems. The Japanese would bomb, then we would
have to replace the matting and fill the holes. We filled the holes,
replace the planks what ever needed to be done. Sometimes bomb fall
near us, all we could do was hope for the best. We were camped between
Henderson Field and the beach. We were able to catch fish, I guess
we were luck compared to infantry.
