Model
97 (1937) Hand Grenade
One of the most widely used grenades of the Pacific War and
was caried by all Japanese front line troops. It was nearly
identical to the Model 91, except it had no provision for
a base propelant attachment and had a shorter fuze delay time.
Many
American reports from the later stages of the Guadalcanal
campaign report dud gernades being used against them that
failed to explode. The brutal environment of the island took
its told on the Japanese munitions. Or, conversely, the fuze
was also known to sometimes be erratic.
