American
& Japanese Equipment
Learn about some of the personal equipment carried by the
Marines and Japanese forces during the Guadalcanal Campaign.
From helmets to footwear, belts and backpacks.
The
soldier's canteen of water quickly turned out to be one of
the most important items carried. And, many added an extra
canteen to their load. The debilitating heat meant that a
soldier could do nothing without water. Many expired or suffered
heat strokes due to lack of water.
Both
sides were faced with supply problems at different stages
of the campaign - the Marines initially, and the Japanese
at the end. |
