Weapons of Guadalcanal
Only a small garrison of Japanese and Korean laborers were
on Guadalcanal when the Marines. The Japanese responded by
committing increasing numbers of soldiers.
For
the Marines, the crack of their Arisaka rifle and sound of
their "Nambu" machine guns would be familiar for
the the entire campaign and on many others islands across
the Pacific.
